Whether you want to build a complex or simple frame the following steps can guide you in the process.
How to build a metal awning frame.
Decide whether you want to provide over head shade by locating the awning against a building or whether you want the awning to be free standing.
The awning must reach from that point to the top of the window frame.
Once the frame was up it only lacked a metal roof.
Create a 2 dimensional square frame and attach an equally sized square frame to it so they share a middle spine.
Make 2 identical 2 dimensional right triangle frames attached to the ends of your square frame.
With a few well placed metal roofing screws complete with butyl grommets the roof was on and the awnings were complete.
But if it does need to be waterproof be sure to cut the metal tight to the wall use the appropriate flashing and sealer and use a self tapping screw with a rubber grommet on it so that it doesn t leak around the screw holes.
Step 1 location of frame.
Step 2 affix wall brackets to the window frame fasten one wall bracket to the side of the window frame where the top of the awning will be with galvanized steel screws that are rust resistant.
Our awning had no need to be water proof because there s another overhang above it it s just used for decoration.
An awning frame supports awning curtains and can provide shade and privacy.
We used a three foot wide panel since we had some lying around anyways and rip cut one piece so that all three metal panels fit evenly over the top of the awning.
